03.01.13 – [Withdrawn]

Control 03.01.13 has been officially withdrawn in NIST SP 800-171 Revision 3.

Its original intent — ensuring secure wireless communications — is now covered under 03.13.08 – Transmission and Storage Confidentiality, part of the System and Communications Protection family.

While this control no longer exists as a standalone requirement, the core expectation remains: Protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) during transmission and at rest using encryption and other safeguards.

We’ll explore 03.13.08 in detail later in this series. For now, ensure your systems encrypt CUI and manage wireless technologies securely — especially in environments with mobile devices or remote access.
